HOW TO GET UTM

GET JB-CBD FROM SINGAPORE
Bus
To go to JB (and perhaps elsewhere in Malaysia). Causeway Link CW2 (S$2.50) and the Singapore-JB Express (S$2.40 and a bit faster) leave from the station at the corner of Queen St. and Sultan St about every 15 minutes. Give yourself extra time though, as the lineup is a bit long. Alternatively, you can take the MRT to Kranji and catch the bus there, if you want a cooler journey.

Also, expect delays at either side of the border when taking the causeway. You have to vacate the bus, go through passport control leaving Singapore and entering Malaysia and then re-board. It is important that all members of the party have the white Singapore immigration forms filled in before going through. When you pay for your bus ticket, do also keep your receipt! They check at the borders and you may not be allowed to re-board the bus if you don't have it. Also, be sure to bring a pen to fill in the border forms as they are not often provided.
Taxi
If you want a slightly more comfortable path across, right next to the Queen St. bus station is a taxi stand where shared taxis (S$10 per person) can take you into JB with the convenience of not having to drag your stuff through customs on both sides. This price isn't fixed - it assumes four people are travelling. This is definitely a better way if you have a lot of stuff. The taxis can let you off in downtown JB right near the ticket agencies for buses to anywhere in the country. However, if you take a taxi, you may well be faced with a long wait for the journey back - or it has been known for enterprising locals to take you back in their car, albeit for an inflated fee.

GET UTM FROM JB CBD

Bus

You take any bus going to either to Taman Universiti (also spelled Taman U) or Taman Sri Putri (ask to the driver). The cost is about RM 2.50. From a Taman U or Taman Sri Putriyou take a taxi which cost you about RM 5-7.

Taxi
From JB CBD you simply take a cab to UTM which will cost you about RM 20. Taxi station is outside the CIQ just in front Shoopinc Centre "City Square". Taxi are red-yellow, proton car and they are metered.

GET JB from Kuala Lumpur
From KL International Airport you get a train or a bus to KL central which is the main railway hub. Than if you want to get a bus to JB you need to go to Bukit Jalil which is the bus hub for the moment. In order to get Bukit Jalil from KL central you need to take two trains (look at this map http://www.kiat.net/malaysia/images/kltransit4.gif) Bukit Jalil is in the yellow line, direction Sri Petaling. Every time you change train you have to pay a new ticket (but it's simple and people speak English).
Now this will take you at least one hour. Once you are in Bukit Jalil you just go downstairs walk the way to the bus station (which is in your right side) and take the first bus to JB. Remember, you are going to JB and not to Singapore.
In JB somebody will collect you and bring to the university hostel which is in the campus.

GOING AROUND JB

The best way to go around JB on your own is by taxi. There are plenty of cabs accross the city. After 12pm, cab price is 1,5 more the usual fare. Payments are cash-on-hand as cabs are not provided with credit card devices. It is better to have always cash as many food shops are not provided with credit card devices too. ATM can be found in the main hotspots particularly around shopping malls.
